GIULIA RECLI - ITALY

Giulia Recli (1890 – 19 December 1970) was an Italian composer and essayist.
Born in Milan, Recli was a student under Ildebrando Pizzetti and Victor de Sabata, learning piano, composition and singing. She was awarded first and second prizes at New York musical competitions. Recli's works were introduced to American audiences by Tullio Serafin. In 1926, at a Metropolitan Opera concert headlining Belgian violinist, César Thomson, Recli's Chimes at Sunrise was performed. In 1931, Recli's Nicolette s'Endorte, described by The New York Times as a "graceful lullaby", was performed at the Metropolitan Opera by Mario Vitetta (solo violin) in a concert devoted to the French Tenor Georges Thill. In 1965 a concert of her work and three other female composers was performed in Rome at an RAI symphony concert.

Born in Izmir/Turkey Zeynep Gedizlioglu studied composition with Cengiz Tanc in Istanbul, She studied with Theo Brandmüller in Saarbrücken, Ivan Fedele in Strasbourg and Wolfgang Rihm in Karlsruhe in addition to music theory with Michael Reudenbach.
She received scholarships from the Elisabeth and Bruno Meindl Foundation (2003), from the Saarland Education Ministry (2004), the ‘Landesgraduiertenstipendium’ scholarship (2005), the Wolfgang Rihm Scholarship of the Hoepfner Foundation (2008) as well as a scholarship from the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation (2010).
In 2005 she won the Grant-in-Aid Prize of the Franz Liszt Scholarship in Weimar. She participated in the International Summer School for New Music in Darmstadt and in Centre Acanthes with her own compositions. She was in residence at the electro-acoustic music research center Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique IRCAM in Paris (2010-2011). Between 1994 and 2000 she wrote pieces for various theatrical works. Her compositions were performed at international festivals like ‘Grenzenlos-Kulturelle Begegnung mit der Türkei’ in Berlin, ‘Rendez-vous Musique Nouvelle’ in Forbach, ‘Mediterrane Neue Musik Tage’ and at the Biennale in Istanbul, 'MITo Settembre Musica' in Milan, ‘Estovest’ in Turin, ‘Musica’ in Strasbourg, ‘ISCM World New Music Days’ in Goteborg, 21.European Cultural Days in Karlsruhe, Maerz Musik in Berlin, Beethovenfest in Bonn, Eclat in Stuttgart and at the festival Wien Modern in Vienne.
In 2012, she won the Ernst von Siemens Composers’ Prize. She lives and works in Berlin.
