CAROLINE SCHLEICHER KRÄHMER - GERMANY
BORN 16 DECEMBER
Caroline Schleicher-Krähmer was a German composer, violinist and clarinettist.
She was encouraged to study both clarinet and violin by her father (a bassoonist). She married the oboist Ernst Krähmer and they toured in Europe and Russia until his death in 1837. Her works include a Sonatina for clarinet and piano.
Thanks to the "International encyclopedia of women composers", Caroline Schleicher was known to have composed and published several works. In the meantime, several of these compositions have been rediscovered. These are works for piano and for voice with piano accompaniment as well as two smaller compositions for piano. The publication of all the works found so far and their chronological classification is already in progress.
One of the compositions, the "Sonatine for Clarinet and Piano", was published in the 1970s in an anthology for clarinet.
